The writer would like to state first that he has respondednwith a discussion to a previous publication by the authorn(Leshchinsky 2000). That discussion was followed by ancomprehensive paper (Leshchinsky 2001) introducingna possible procedure to account for peak strength of soilnin the framework of limit equilibrium analysis. Thenauthor’s current paper reaches the same conclusion asnhis initial paper regarding the use of peak strength inndesign. However, the writer does not see furthernconvincing evidence about the universal applicability ofnthe author’s conclusion. This discussion shows that thenrecommendation of using the peak strength should bencarefully considered before its application to design.
