So, you have your seismic data loaded into your interpretation system. What is the first thing you do? Go ahead and start interpreting using your preferential loop and tie method? It makes sense, particularly because the exploration manager is breathing down your neck, waiting for several hundred million barrel prospects from you by the end of the month, right? Maybe something else should be done first—verify that the seismic data have been loaded correctly and do not suffer from issues like being loaded in the wrong format, scaled incorrectly, clipped, etc. After all, you really really trust your data loader (particularly if it is you), and in a cursory manner, it looks all right. However, if you take a few minutes to very carefully check your seismic data by zooming in really tight and also utilizing frequency analysis, you may find that your data was improperly loaded, and changing one or more parameters may give you data with much higher frequency content and resolution.
