摘要

The application of a simultaneous AVO inversion algorithm to the seismic angle stacks in the South Varanus area has demonstrated the ability to accurately map the Flag Sandstone and to predict the presence of hydrocarbons in the reservoir. The inversion and interpretation strategy use band-pass Vp/Vs to interpret the Flag Sandstone and then a rerun of the inversion to obtain full bandwidth P-impedance for the identification of hydrocarbons. The future expansion of the study area to unexplored areas surrounding the pilot study area (and the subsequent drilling of new wells) will provide final confirmation of the technique for direct hydrocarbon prediction.
