Landslides and earth flows are major dangers in Alpine areas; therefore, determining potential landslide zones and predicting earth-flow events are of great importance in these areas.rnAs part of a research project funded by the Austrian Academy of Science, we investigated an area where landslides have been reported for more than 300 years. The first documented landslide occurred in 1660, and the intervals between subsequent events, down to the present, range from 70 to 100 years. Since geologic mapping, but no geophysical investigations, had been done in this area (known as the valley of the Gschliefgraben), it was chosen for the three-year project.rnThis research project has involved mainly seismic and geoelectrical measurements (ERT). This article focuses on the latter which, due to the correlation of resistivity with water saturation, can help evaluate the stability of the sediments in the area.
