Early in 1966, GSI vice president Ken Burg heard that the Bolt air gun had potential as a marine seismic source. He contacted Bernie Luskin of Bolt Associates in Connecticut and arranged for an evaluation test at Port Hueneme, California. I was assigned the task of processing and evaluating the result. None of the GSI representatives at the test were very enthusiastic because we just couldn't imagine using something as simple as compressed air to replace dynamite as a seismic source.
