A 3D VSP pilot was successfully acquired in two wells and processed to produce seismic volumes with areal coverage of the reservoir of 4 km~2 and 9 km~2, respectively, around the two boreholes used to deploy a 126-level 3-C geophone array. The 9 km2 image is significant because a larger 3D VSP image will be more valuable for reservoir characterization.rnThe reliability of the 3D VSP images was demonstrated by well-synthetic ties, AI inversion, and interpretation. The results indicate that this high-resolution technique can accurately image reservoir details that previously had not been seen or are below the resolution limit of high-resolution, 640-fold surface seismic data.
