I am on the trail of Associate Members who haven't upgraded to Active. Perhaps many are geologists who don't think they are qualified. Can you pick a seismic record, considering statics and NMO? Can you graphically migrate picked data? If so, you are qualified for Active membership. Just kidding! These days you can't find a seismic record that still has NMO and statics. I recently heard a prominent AAPG member suggest that the difference between the two societies was that geophysicists are interested in field operations and instrumentation, which is of no interest to geologists. I agree that geologists are probably not too interested in instrumentation and field operations, but I was amazed that this person didn't realize that geophysics has progressed a little since the 1930s. SEG members represent a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. It seems ridiculous to have to start enumerating them. So I won't. But I am off the subject.
