摘要

The authors have presented very interesting experimental work on the behaviour of sand with a wide range of fines contents. The influence of different density state measures such as global void ratio (e), relative density (RD), skeleton void ratio, e_S and interfine void ratio, e_f on undrained monotonic peak strength for sand with fines were examined. It was argued that this will allow engineers to assess the undrained monotonic peak strength which is related to strain softening/liquefaction behaviour (p. 52 in original article). However, a significant fraction of the test data did not correspond to liquefaction behaviour (figures 9 and 10 in the original article). It appears the main focus of this article was on examining the influence of fines content and density states (as measured by a variety of means) on undrained peak strength.
