Food Security in Australia: Challenges and Opportunities for the Future

As a field of serious academic inquiry, 'food studies' can now justifiably lay claim to have well and truly 'arrived'. In 2012, for example, two new journals - the International Journal of Food Studies and the Journal of Food Studies -were launched and joined the list of established journals alongside those such as the highly regarded Food, Culture and Society. As well, several of the major international publishing houses (Ashgate, Edward Elgar, and Routledge) either announced recently that they were actively seeking manuscripts in this field or have released substantial compilations of previously published material (e.g., Counihan and Van Esterik, 2008; Williams-Forson and Counihan, 2012).
