ESVE, a key overspeed test risk management factor

Some new line or new rolling stock qualification procedures include an overspeed test requirement, in other words tests at speeds higher than those authorised in revenue service for the particular line or vehicle. To perform these tests, conventional safety systems such as KVB (balise-based speed control) or TVM (ground-to-train transmission), the purpose of which is to control running speeds, have to be disconnected. Instead, it is the ESVE Test Speed Monitoring System that fulfils the requisite safety functions, monitoring train speeds via GPS coordinates and the speed and odometer data available on the train.
