In 2004, IDEAlliance (International Digital Enterprise Alliance) began efforts to define new specifications for proofing and commercial printing that could make proofing and printing to the numbers" a reality. The goal was not only to develop new aims for commercial printing, but to understand more about how to reliably assure a much closer visual match between the vision of the creative and the finished product on press. Don Hutcheson, a color management consultant (Hutchcolor, LLC) assumed a leadership role as the chairman of the GRACoL® Committee, and with his team, conducted a series of research pressruns that lead to the specification of process controls now known as G7™.
