Der Friedhof Steinsskogen in Baerutn bei Oslo Hegt in einer historischen Kulturlandschaft. Seine Gestaltung nimmt Bezug auf die natürlichen Gegebenheiten, die wenigen baulichen Elemente setzen Akzente in der Landschaft.%A 2.5-meter high, long stone wall serves as a backbone for the Steinsskogen cemetery in an Oslo suburb. The wall, which marks the entrance distinctly contrasts with the surrounding deciduous woodlands. The site has traces of settlements from the Stone Age, and was once a seashore. Ancient farm fields are used for the grounds of the cemetery. The fields are separated by hills with vegetation left in its existing state. The change in spatial quality creates a comforting atmosphere. The surrounding vegetation encircling the cemetery underscores the feeling of enclosure. A primary goal of the project was to preserve the size of the farm fields. Five-meter-long grave plots were used, double the standard size in Norway, to maintain a sense of openness.
