On Sunday evening Sept. 21, there was a major rout of the U.S. dollar. Starting in Asia, the USD/JPY collapsed and selling followed across the board. What happened on Sept. 21 is a clear example of forex's million-dollar folly: ignoring fundamentals and geopolitics. That said, following the fundamentals does not require you to have a Ph.D. in political science or economics. By keeping on top of five simple factors, you can put yourself ahead of the game.
