In the course of 'turning around' a paper [2] with a degree of overlap of ideas with [1] the author developed further ideas which he believes will form a helpful addendum to [1].rnGas hydrates are not confined to methane as 'guest molecule': other molecules which form clathrates with ice include chloroform and carbon dioxide. It has long been known [3] that the 'ice' in any gas hydrate is less dense than ice in simple chemical equilibrium with liquid water. On removal of the guest chemical species it will undergo a phase change to ice according to the conventional definition in the previous sentence. If the densities of the two differ so, it must be assumed, will their other properties including heat of fusion and vapour pressure.
