This is an interesting and informative book on combustion covering the topics set out in the title, namely flame formation, propagation and extinction. This book mainly deals with the fundamental processes of combustion, explosion and detonation of gaseous mixtures and flames of volatile fuels. It also deals with some applications. The selection however does not include heterogeneous combustion which is a major process in the combustion of coal, biomass, heavy oils, and fires of combustible solids such as nuclear graphite or building materials such plastic. Thus some major areas of application are not included.
