New guide for cold stores to maximise their energy efficiency

Why do businesses need a cold storage energy efficiency strategy? No business with a cold storage facility can afford to ignore energy efficiency. Already one of our industry's greatest operational costs, we can expect energy prices to keep rising and we should expect increasing pressure from government policy to use less energy and to reduce related emissions. As well as the stick of regulation, Government currently offers the carrot of the cold storage Climate Change Agreement which saves our industry more than £10m each year in taxes in exchange for meeting the agreement's energy efficiency target. Our industry already works hard to improve its environmental impact, but we must now accelerate, which will be more challenging in the years ahead. Putting in place a considered and informed strategy will help businesses select the most impactful and cost-effective ways to reduce energy use and take advantage of opportunities to save on energy bills and taxation.
