To weather the ever-changing healthcare climate, hospitals and systems must be nimble and adaptive. Therefore, their governing boards' structure must evolve to be able to effectively guide their organizations by embracing outside-the-box thinking and minimizing pitfalls. Hinton shows us that a decades-old framework can be modernized successfully to create a smaller, methodical, competency-based, and strategic board that fuels unprecedented growth. Through her literature review and experience, Zastocki highlights the importance of a board's asking insightful questions, as well as the value of having clinicians represented on a quality committee. As she leads her organization through an innovation collaborative, we hope the alliance's potential evolution will have a positive effect on all members. Here's to the proliferation of "disciplined dreaming" and "designed resilience."
