As the healthcare industry continues to be reshaped by the innumerable challenges of reform, innovation is critical to improving the patient experience and managing population health while decreasing the cost of delivering care. Larry Stofko (2015), executive vice president of The Innovation Institute, lays out the urgency of the situation in succinct terms: "Without innovation and creativity, we would never achieve the change needed to improve the experience of care and the health of populations, and reduce the per capita costs of healthcare."
