ESTIMATION OF TOTAL ANTIOXIDANT STATUS AND CONCENTRATIONS OF BIOELEMENTS Zn, Fe, Cu AND CHOLESTEROL IN RAINBOW TROUT (ONCORHYNCHUS MYKISS WALBAUM)

The aim of this study was to determine total antioxi-dant status (TAS) and concentrations of Cu, Zn, Fe and total cholesterol in tissues of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum). The study involved 60 individuals from 4 to 6 month-old. The fish were cultured at a private fish farm in Western Pomeranian Province, Poland. For chemical and biochemical assays, samples of liver, kidney, gills, muscles and blood were taken from each fish. We have recorded changes with age in the analyzed parameters as well as relationships between TAS and metal concentrations. We have also verified/validated~* possibilities of rearing fish in cooling water discharges.rnStatistically significant differences (p<0.01; p<0.05) in tissue concentrations of Cu and Zn have been found between the 4-month-old and 6-months-old rainbow trout. In the 4-month-old fish, kidney iron content correlated positively with TAS in kidney (r=0.619), and blood zinc content correlated negatively with TAS in gills (r=0.626). In the 6-month-old fish, liver zinc content was positively correlated with TAS in kidney (r=0.891).
