Laboratory investigations were performed to evaluate the influence of soil enzymes on the phytoextraction of mercury from contaminated soil. Inorganic forms of mercury (HgCl_2, HgSO_4, Hg(NO_3)_2) were used to pollute the soil. The phytoextraction process was carried out with the use of garden cress plants (Lepidium sativum). The process was also conducted after increasing the soil biological activity by addition of commercial enzymatic preparations (Fluka Company). The results of the study showed, that high soil biological activity can be helpful in soil remediation with the use of plants. Depending on the form and concentration of mercury used for soil contamination, accumulation in plant tissues after adding commercial enzymatic preparations compared to the same process carried out on a model soil, was higher by 8 -13 %. After adding commercial enzymatic preparations to the soil, garden cress accumulated about 20 % of the total mercury content in soil. Translocation was on the level of 20-22 %.
