ADSORPTION-CATALYSIS OF DYE USING MODIFIED BENTONITE

Inorganic organic bentonite was synthesized by modifying bentonite with the use of hydroxy-iron and surfactant. This modified bentonite could be used to remove dye by adsorption and catalysis. The removal of acid dye Orange II was studied with regard to various factors, such as time and pH of solution. Results showed that the inorganic organic bentonite could efficiently remove dye (96.22% removal efficiency). The maximum adsorption capacity is 76 mg/g. The pH of the solution has a significant effect on adsorption and catalysis. At pH 4, the removal efficiency of adsorption and catalytic degradation were at maximum (97.57% and 87.13%, respectively). After degradation, the secondary pollution diminished, and the bentonite could be reused.
