Maintaining Biodiversity in Forest Ecosystems

Conservation biology, founded on the principles of island biogeography and dedicated to landscape designs of re- serves, corridors, and matrix, has quickly risen to prominence in natural resources management worldwide (Norton, Ch. 16). This book extends the arena of conservation biology to managed forests with the premise that "diversity should be conserved in all its forms, from the smallest microbes to the largest trees, and at all levels of organization, from genes, through species to whole ecosystems"(synopsis, p.i).
