On a recent Saturday Natalya Ogorodnikov, a new arrival from St. Petersburg, is chatting in Russian with shoppers crowding the aisles of Yuzh-niy Gastronom, a grocery store in the heart of Brooklyn's Brighton Beach. She's not there for the pickled herring or the rye bread. Ogorodnikov is doing some anthropological field work—studying the long distance habits of this emigre community.
