I can still remember from my days as a young soldier training in Fort Devens, Mass. a banner strung along the high ceiling of its hangarlike mess hall. It really was a message for the cooks, but I had a kind of Zen experience and saw many meanings in those words: If it tastes good, they'll eat it.
