Today students arrive on campus with a backpack full of wireless devices, and they expect to be able to use them whenever they want and wherever they are on campus. What happens when they are all running at the same time? "One of the biggest challenges at universities today is not connecting computers to the Internet, it's the gaming systems, the tablets and all the other devices that drain the network," says Michael Louden, vice president of enterprise sales for Comcast in Philadelphia. The network drain tends to peak around 3 p.m., when students are most likely to be researching online while they stream music, post to social media accounts, take a break and download a movie, play an interactive game-or do them all at once and complain about slow Wi-Fi access.
