Dairy firm installs ￡1.5M energy efficient cooling system

Robert Wiseman Dairies (RWD) has installed an energy efficient cooling system at its new ￡80M milk production facility at Bridgwater in Somerset. The equipment was supplied by Star Refrigeration in a contract worth over ￡1.5M. The Bridgwater facility is one of eight processing dairies nationwide and has been designed to produce 500M litres of milk per year, which is supplied to major multiples and independent retailers in the UK. The cooling plant comprises a high efficiency process cooling and coldroom refrigeration system, which uses natural ammonia as the primary refrigerant, cooling a glycol secondary fluid. The plant has a total cooling capacity of over 3MW, covering both process and cold room requirements. Star's Envitherm transcritical carbon dioxide heat pump provides high grade heat recovery for office and water cooling.
