The UK's meat sector has been given a "clear reminder" that bluetongue virus was a threat after it was found in two cattle imported from France, the country's deputy chief veterinary officer has warned.Industry needed to remain vigilant following the positive testing of bluetongue as part of a routine post-import testing regime, Graeme Cooke urged.However, the UK was officially bluetongue-free, the risk of the disease remained low and exports were not affected, the Government said.The UK's Animal and Plant Health Agency and thePirbright Institute identified the disease in the animals when they were brought to North Yorkshire from central France. The two cattle were isolated and humanely culled.
