Steel packaging recycling update

This article Looks at recent trends in steel packaging recycling in the USA and Europe, and also briefly covers Japan, Korea, South Africa, Australia and Canada. It also describes characteristics of steel recycling. Essentially, it offers an update to the review which we published a little over two years ago. In recent years, recycling of steel packaging has continued to mature. In many countries steel packaging was already recycled at quite high rates, so the rates have remained relatively stable. In countries where the rates were relatively low, there has, in several cases, been significant growth. In nearly all cases, packaging steel is recycled as only one component in a broader steel-recycling effort. Cans are the usual focus of efforts associated with recycling packaging steel, since they represent the largest amount of steel packaging in the municipal waste stream.
