Visit any major airport around MM the world and you'll see a host Mr of familiar names and liveries adorning the side of the aircraft, as they go about their business. Many are relative newcomers to the market, or amalgamations, but one of the very oldest companies has a fascinating history it's determined to record and preserve for the future. Qantas, an acronym of the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services, can trace its roots back to shortly after World War One and two former Australian Flying Corps crewmates - Lt Hudson Fysh dfc and Paul McGinness dfc dcm. As a small consolation, Fysh and McGinness were asked to survey an air-race route across Queensland and the neighbouring Northern Territory by the Australian Government, and to drop off supplies en route. This 51-day trip by motor vehicle was gruelling and incident-packed. Their modified Model'T' Ford struggled with the harsh outback terrain and weather, becoming bogged down on many occasions and suffering mechanical failures. But the pair showed great determination - an attribute that would become their trademark -and completed the task.
