'More than just flying' is the tagline of North Weald airfield in Essex. Operated by Epping Forest District Council, the former Battle of Britain station is a community for aviators and other organisations combining to provide the area and the region with a unique resource. Because of this bond, all at 'The Weald' joined forces to present a Community Day Fly-in to celebrate the airfield's exceptionalrnheritage and to toast its future.rnStaged on September 13 jointly by North Weald Flying Services, best known for the famous 'Squadron' facility, and Epping Forest District Council the day offered a fabulous insight into activities at the airfield. Also taking part were North Weald Bassett Parish Council, Weald Aviation, the North Weald Airfield Museum, aviation businesses and operators. All co-operated to create a memorable day for the many visitors, both by air and by car.
