Gannet Royal approval

His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales has agreed to become patron of the project to restore Fairey Gannet AEW.3 XL500. The airframe is being overhauled by Hunter Flying Ltd at Exeter, Devon.rnPrince Charles has a close connection with this aircraft - as part of his Royal Navy training he joined members of 849 Squadron at Yeovilton, Somerset, to familiarise himself on the Gannet and its role ofrnproviding airborne early warning for the fleet. He went on to complete a 90-minute sortie in XL500 and the aircraft sported a red dragon emblem on its tail especially for the occasion.
