P-40 to be restored 'down under'

Curtiss P-40N 42-104986 has recently been acquired by a new owner in Australia, following a sale brokered by Platinum Fighters. The World War Two veteran flew with the 49th Fighter Group and saw action over New Guinea where it accounted for at least one Japanese Kawasaki Ki-61 Tony. It will now be fully restored and brought to airworthy standard in Australia by Precision Aerospace, which also worked on the Fighter Collection's Merlin-powered P-40F VH-PIV, seen at Flying Legends airshow at Duxford on July 9 and 10 (see pages 86-87).
