Schneider Trophy exhibition launched

Southampton's Solent Sky Museum is to launch a travelling exhibition to mark the 80th anniversary of Great Britain winning the Schneider Trophy in 1931. 'Air, Sea and Speed' will include Supermarine S.6A N248, a preserved example of the type that won the race, one that acted as a precursor for designer R J Mitchell's plans for the Spitfire. The exhibition can be seen at the Goodwood Revival in September. Also included in the project is a film presentation and oral history recordings. To aid the latter, the museum would like to hear from anyone who has connections or memories of the Schneider Trophy races. In 2012, 'Air, Sea and Speed' will be installed as part of Solent Sky's permanent displays, alongside N248, which took part in the 1929 and 1931 races.
