Record-breaking Hunter engine removed

The Rolls-Royce Avon RA7R is in need of remedial work due to corrosion in the air intakes, but with WB188 being a unique aircraft (adapted for a world speed record attempt), the removal procedure differed from that printed in official manuals. Flown by Neville Duke to a new record speed of 727.6mph (1,171km/h) on September 7,1953, it was the only Hunter to be fitted with this type of powerplant. In conjunction with RAF Museum Cosford, a decision was made to take the RA7R out in 2010.
