Early aviation celebrated at Doncaster museum

South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum's Early Aviation hall was officially opened at Doncaster on May 26. The centrepiece is a Bleriot XI replica depicting the aircraft that Leon Delagrange flew at the Doncaster Aviation Meeting in October 1909. The Frenchman established what was claimed to be a world speed record of 49.9mph (80.3km/h) at the event. The new exhibition also highlights Britain's first-ever air display and the personalities that attended, including Samuel Franklin Cody.
