German airline Lufthansa has opted to end its funding of Junkers Ju-52 D-CDLH ('D-AQUI').The 83-year-old tri-motor was acquired and restored by the airline in 1984 and had been operating passenger flights with Deutsche Lufthansa Berlin Stiftung. The future of the aircraft remains uncertain, although it may yet continue to fly at airshows but a final decision has yet to be made.Lufthansa has emphasised that its withdrawal of funding is not connected to the tragic crash of Ju-Atr's Ju-52 HB-HOT last August. This led to the Swiss operator grounding the remainder of its Junkers fleet.
