G650 Speeds Coast to Coast

The Gulfstream G650, a large-cabin, long-range aircraft currently on its way to certification, recently flew from the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California, to the Savannah/Hilton. Head International Airport in Savannah, Georgia. The more than 1,900 nautical mile flight was completed in an impressive three hours and 26 minutes. Cruising at speeds between Mach 0.91 and 0.92, the G650 briefly touched its maximum operating speed of Mach 0.925 and reached ground speeds of as much as 660 knots. The G650 can fly as far as 7,000 nautical miles at Mach 0.85. Despite its long-range and speed capabilities, the G650 has demonstrated a balanced field length of less than 4,500 feet, allowing it to land at most airports generally utilized only by small business jets.
