The 1960s were a time of enormous change, even in freeflight scale. The hobby was drifting further away from the golden years of the 1930's—a time when young boys reveled in the stick-and-tissue art, then struggled to get their models to fly. The AMA F/F Scale rules had always been stifling and complex, and their popularity was waning. The time was right for a new set of competition rules that would put the focus back on flying— and having fun.
