It's always easy to identify with the superstar. The hype and stature seem to increase proportionally. The lesser teammates sometimes don't even get a chance to bask in the reflected glory but without them, and the foundation they individually set, the superstar would be a dud. So it was with many of the planes of the Second World War. The P-51 Mustang, most notably, stands out as the superstar, and has garnished mountains of praise for its role in the war. In the Pacific, it was the F6F Hellcat and the F4U Corsair that got mounds of glory.rnNo doubt a lot of that praise was justified, but other planes, like the tubby F4F Wildcat, didn't share much of the limelight. However, it was the Wildcat that helped hold Guadalcanal against aircraft that were more nimble and numerous.
