NATO draws up strategic plan for UAV operations

A strategic concept of operations (CONOPS) for unmanned air vehicle use by NATO nations is to be created using lessons learned from alliance members' experience in Afghanistan.rnThe strategic-level CONOPS will be developed by the Joint Air Power Competence Centre think tank. Based in Germany, the rncentre is not formally part of NATO's structure, but has 17 of the alliance's 28 states as members, including the UK and the USA.rnNATO will use the new CONOPS to address its need for a co-ordinated policy on the deployment of unmanned aircraft systems.
