The preliminary report into last month's high-speed landing of a Cathay Pacific Airbus A330-300 at Hong Kong confirms that the crew had issued a Mayday, but sheds little light on what caused the engine problems.rnThe Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department's report into the 13 April incident, confirms that the A330's ECAM warning system had reported problems with the Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines at least five times throughout the flight.rnDespite this, the authority says there was no engine or fuel system-related problem reported in the maintenance log of the aircraft (B-HLL) before it left Surabaya for Hong Kong. While the aircraft was in the climb, the crew noticed minor engine pressure ratio (EPR) fluctuations on the right-hand (No 2) Trent. The other engine also had similar fluctuations "but within a narrower range", says the report.
