Hawk flies out of Poland

BAE Systems has withdrawn its Hawk 128 from the Polish air force's lead-in fighter trainer contest, after its recent request for proposals outlined a requirement for a strike capability. Confirming its decision on 14 June, the UK company said it will not proceed with a bid due to "Poland prioritising combat capability rather than a pilot training system". Released in early June, the air force's RFP had detailed a requirement for candidates to offer aircraft equipped with a long-range fire-control radar and capable of deploying laser- and GPS-guided bombs.
