Latin airlines push for a small-carrier safety initiative

Latin American airline representatives are calling on IATA to create a set of safety standards for airlines ineligible for the organisation's operational safety audit programme (IOSA). Roberto Kriete, president of the Latin American and Caribbean air transport association, ALTA, says accident rates in Latin America are declining. However, he adds that there is a subgroup of non-IOSA airlines - including those ineligible for the programme - with an accident rate four times higher than IOSA member carriers, and that this is disturbing.
