Records tumble as Big Two deliver most airliners ever

Last year, Airbus and Boeing delivered a record number of airliners as both manufacturers broke the 14-year-old benchmark of 620 aircraft set by the US manufacturer in 1999. The two companies also reached a new high for annual sales, securing 2,858 net aircraft orders between them. Airbus confirmed that it delivered 626 aircraft last year, almost 7% more than in 2012. Although this was a new record for Airbus, it is 12 aircraft short of the 648 shipments Boeing completed - a new all-time record for annual jet airliner deliveries. The total number of deliveries in 2013 reached a record 1,274 aircraft, more than 7% up on the 1,189 the two airframers shipped in 2012.
