Tu-154 crash probe prompts Poland to declassify material

Poland's defence ministry is to declassify and disclose data relating to the fatal presidential Tupolev Tu-154M crash in 2010 to support a new government-driven inquiry into the accident. Despite a comprehensive investigation - involving Polish representatives - by the Russian Interstate Aviation Committee, which concluded that the aircraft crashed while attempting an approach to Smolensk in below-minima conditions, the current Polish government has insisted on carrying out a separate probe. The inquiry was initiated in February by the Law and Justice political party, of which the prime minister and defence minister are members, and which is chaired by Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the brother of former Polish president Lech Kaczynski, the highest-profile casualty in the Tu-154 crash.
