Cell phone distracted driving has become a pervasive problem in our culture, estimated to be involved in 26 percent of all crashes. The National Safety Council was the first national organization to call for a total ban on cell phone use behind the wheel in 2009, and we have been capturing feedback on company policies ever since. With no state or local laws banning both handheld and hands-free cell phone use, employers are leading the way by acknowledging the risk and putting cell phone policies in place. However, not all policies are created equal.
