Proposed Legislation May Allow Upcoming Retiree School Bus Drivers Financial Incentives

LEGISLATION BEING RAISED for two Virginia communities may offer new incentives for school bus drivers to stay on the job. Rockingham County and Harrisonburg City, Virginia, are presently seeing qualified drivers moving toward retirement without suitable replacements filling the void. House Bill 351 would assess areas of the commonwealth for critical bus driver shortages, and if a school division is deemed in need, it could allow qualifying bus drivers to continue driving and receive a retirement allowance.
