London Fire Brigade senior human resources adviser, Bill Napper, has retired after 43 years local government service.rnThe last 30 years of Bill's career have been spent at London Fire Brigade, where he has provided advice to thousands of firefighters and staff behind the scenes, since joining in the late 70s.rnAfter leaving school in 1965, Bill took up his first post working as a clerical officer for the Greater London Council (GLC). "I joined the GLC after leaving school and was promoted to London Fire Brigade in May 1979 when the brigade was still one of 16 departments that made up the GLC. I hoped that it would be a secure job that would allow me to serve the public, and that turned out to be the case as I'm leaving 43 years later.rn"The best thing about working for the brigade is the people that you come into contact with every day. The camaraderie is terrific and there is a real sense of belonging which I will miss after I leave, though I still hope to keep in touch with the good friends that I've made over the years."
