The first way of looking at drugsrnand alcohol policies is to deny that a problem might even exist and shy away from any drugs or alcohol testing altogether. By ignoring the problem, no one could possibly feel ashamed because no one would know.rnThen there is the other, much safer and far more responsible way.rnWith the Corporate Manslaughter Act now in force and today's society relying more and more on drugs and alcohol during leisure activities, it really does make sense to face up to the issue. There is no shame in recognising that there could be a problem and this is, in fact, the first step in making sure that the workforce is safe. By taking a responsible attitude and putting a drugs and alcohol policy in place, employers are sending out two clear messages (1) that the workplace is a 'no go' area for users of drugs and alcohol and (2) that they are totally committed to a safe place of work. Surely that is something that every organisation should be proud of.
