One of Lincolnshire's first - and longest-serving - female firefighters, Hazel Darwood, has retired after 21 years of retained service at Metheringham fire station. It was a career she never guessed she would have. In fact, the one-time hairdresser said she fell into the job when her husband, WM Roy Darwood, was applying for a promotion. "I joined in 1990 through what was, essentially, accident," recalled 56-year-old Hazel.
